Waiver Policy
The Journal of Forensic Science and Research (JFSR) is committed to promoting inclusivity and global participation in forensic science publishing. We recognize that not all authors have equal access to research funding. Therefore, JFSR has developed a Waiver Policy to assist authors who may not have sufficient resources to cover Article Processing Charges (APCs).
Eligibility for Waivers
- Low-Income Countries: Authors affiliated with institutions in countries classified by the World Bank as low-income or lower-middle-income are eligible for partial or full waivers.
- Early-Career Researchers: First-time authors, Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral researchers may apply for reduced APCs.
- Invited Contributions: Manuscripts specifically invited by the editorial board may qualify for fee waivers.
- Special Circumstances: Authors facing financial hardship may request consideration on a case-by-case basis.
How to Apply for a Waiver
Authors seeking a waiver must apply at the time of submission. Applications must include:
- A cover letter requesting a waiver and explaining the financial circumstances.
- Institutional or funding details, if applicable.
- Documentation supporting eligibility (e.g., student ID, country classification).
Review Process
Waiver requests are reviewed by the editorial office and publisher. Decisions are made transparently and communicated to authors before acceptance. The decision on waiver applications does not affect editorial or peer review outcomes.
Extent of Waivers
Waivers may be:
- Full Waiver: 100% of APCs waived.
- Partial Waiver: A percentage reduction based on financial need.
- Discount: Reduced APCs for special issues, conferences, or editorially invited works.
Limitations
- Waiver requests must be made at submission; post-acceptance requests are generally not entertained.
- Waivers are not guaranteed; they are granted based on available resources and justifications.
- Only one waiver per corresponding author may be granted within a calendar year.
Transparency
JFSR is committed to DOAJ Transparency Principles. Waiver policies are openly published, and decisions are made without bias or discrimination.

Commitment to Global Participation
Through its Waiver Policy, JFSR supports equitable access to publishing opportunities, ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent researchers from contributing to the advancement of forensic science worldwide.
